CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Andy Walsh, a professor of religion and philosophy, is the recipient of the Helsabeck Prize for Excellence in Teaching at 乱伦社区. He was recognized during the Honors Day Convocation in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium on May 7.
Lauren Schellenberger, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College, said after giving Walsh the award, 鈥淵ou have embraced the experiential philosophy of 乱伦社区鈥檚 curriculum by taking hundreds of students to St. Louis for your 鈥楻eligion in America鈥 class. Students have said it is an eye-opening, if not life-changing, experience. Classes in religion often elicit different reactions from people with opposing religious backgrounds, but you always have welcomed different viewpoints, showing fairness while encouraging students to challenge you.鈥
Walsh joined the Culver-Stockton faculty in 2001, and he serves as the chair of the department of religion. He previously taught at Indiana University in Indianapolis.
Walsh earned his doctorate in 1994 from Drew University in Madison, N.J., and his master鈥檚 degree in philosophy in 1992 from Drew. He received his master鈥檚 degree in theological studies in 1990 from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in 1992 from North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
