CANTON, Mo. – �������� has received a two-year grant to establish the Moorman Professorship through a partnership with the Moorman Foundation of Quincy, Ill.

Jim Cosgrove, a professor of business administration, has been selected to provide the leadership as the named faculty member. He will provide a robust learning experience for students with the basic principles and deeper understanding of economics, as well as the ethical and legal principles of a free society and qualities to become a better-informed and engaged generation of Americans.

Cosgrove has been a member of the faculty at �������� since 1982. He has a bachelor of business administration degree with a major in accounting from the University of Notre Dame, a bachelor’s degree in religion and philosophy from Culver-Stockton, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law.

He has been recognized for his past work with the Helsabeck Prize for Excellence in Teaching from Culver-Stockton, the Missouri Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education, the Excellence in Teaching Award from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, and the Burlington Northern Teaching Award.

A professorship is one of the highest educational honors a faculty member can achieve. It will provide for Cosgrove additional opportunities for class travel, as well as course development, professional development and a lecture series.

Culver-Stockton has 468 students in its Business, Education and Leadership division, consisting of approximately 40 percent of the student population.

The Moorman Professorship is an important piece to the academic component of the comprehensive campaign, “Culver-Stockton Changing Lives.”

The Moorman Manufacturing Company was created in 1900 in Gorin, Mo., to sell a hog mineral mixture, designed to make the hogs healthier, in homemade white cotton sacks. A few years later, the operation was moved to Quincy. Moorman’s went on to manufacture more than 150 different products for feeding livestock and poultry before it was sold to ADM in 1997.

The prospering Moorman Manufacturing business led Charles A. Moorman – son of founder Thomas Robinson (T.R.) Moorman – and his wife, Fabiola Cassidy Moorman, to establish a foundation in 1942 that gave them an outlet to channel their philanthropic activities.

Charles A. Moorman died in 1948, but his wife remained involved in the operations of the Moorman Foundation until she died in 1977. The foundation continues to hold dear the basic economic, ethical and legal principles of a free society.

The Moorman Professorship will help �������� meet its mission – to prepare students of promise for a dynamic world through a distinctive experiential curriculum within a supportive learning community founded upon the best values of faith and the human spirit.
