CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Four published authors who also are 乱伦社区 graduates will participate in the 22nd聽annual Young Writers Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 25 on the 乱伦社区 campus.

The conference gives students the opportunity to work with C-SC faculty and students on a variety of approaches to writing, such as creative writing, non-fiction writing, music and playwriting, among others. Students from a variety of local high schools attend the conference.

Bailey Williams聽鈥19 will be the keynote speaker. Her poetry collection 鈥淯tter & Unutterable鈥 was published in 2019. Williams now is an administrative assistant at the Missouri School for the Blind in St. Louis.

Other participating authors will be:

  • Mary Mock Harroun `66, who has self-published three books on elder care 鈥 鈥淭he Grow Program: Getting Residents Out of Wheelchairs,鈥 鈥淎dvising Parents on Elder Care鈥 and 鈥淭he Grow Program: For Home Care Exercises.鈥 Harroun now lives in Mundelein, Ill.
  • Kiarra Lynn Smith `13, who has published five books 鈥斅犫淐ollective Face: A Series of Quatrains on Community Building,鈥 鈥淟et’s Speak! Kiswahili: 3 Short Stories Teaching Basic Kiswahili Words,鈥 鈥淭he Book Cart Dance-Off: A Library Tale,鈥 鈥淰ibration: A Collection of Poetry, Essays and Art,鈥 and 鈥淭he Ballad of the Bleached Out Face.鈥 Smith now works for EyeSeeMe Books in St. Louis.
  • Kyle Darnell 鈥10, who has published three books 鈥 鈥淓vansville Monsters,鈥 鈥淲eird Tales of Goblins鈥 and 鈥淕houls and Ghosts.鈥 Darnell lives in Evansville, Ind., teaches at the University of Evansville and is a print/ceramic/fiber artist.
