CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Five seniors at Culver-Stockton worked during the fall semester on their final body of work with little certainty of how the Senior Art Show will proceed. With considerations toward safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the students will walk through and discuss a wide array of works in a video 鈥渙pening鈥 at the Mabee Art Gallery in the Herrick Foundation Center.
Keelie O鈥橞rien from Kahoka, Mo., and Steven Walker of Palmyra, Mo., are finishing their bachelor of science degrees in art education. O鈥橞rien has created a series of pastel landscapes of local country roads and ponds. Walker鈥檚 paintings are large and very colorful. Both students also will be representing Culver-Stockton when they exhibit their work in the Arts St. Louis Gallery in the spring.
Students completing their bachelor of fine arts degrees in graphic design are Kaitlyn Schneider of Foley, Mo., Max Phillips of Pittsfield, Ill., and Dakota Hudson of Taylorville, Ill. Schneider鈥檚 designs are bubbly and fun, meant to bring out a happy, creative energy. Phillips has an inclusive alternative clothing brand inspired by the designs of April Grieman, one of the first American designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool. Hudson says her work is dark and macabre, yet simple and chic.
The capstone exhibits will be open for viewing only to students, staff and faculty of Culver-Stockton, but they also can be viewed on the Culver-Stockton website at culver.edu/senior-capstone.
