CANTON, Mo. — Melody Schroer has been selected to serve a two-year term as the faculty representative on the Board of Trustees at ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø, and Cheyenne Grissom, president of the Student Government Association, will serve a one-year term.

Schroer, an associate professor of legal studies, joined the C-SC faculty in August 2014. She teaches courses on introduction to law, criminal law, mock trial, civil litigation and procedure, legal research, analysis and writing, and alternative dispute resolution. She is the chair of the criminal justice and legal studies department. She was awarded the Walter S. Reuling Faculty Prize for Innovation in Student Learning in 2017.

Schroer was an acquisition editor with Thomson Reuters-West Legal Publishing in Eagan, Minn. She previously taught in St. Louis at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, Hickey School, Watterson College and Maryville University, where she also was the director of planned giving. She has previous legal experience as a hearing examiner with the Missouri Public Service Commission in Jefferson City, Mo., an assistant prosecuting attorney in St. Charles County, Mo., and an attorney with the firm of Coburn, Croft and Putzell in St. Louis. She is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association Committee on Paralegals.

Schroer earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology in 1984 from Maryville College, and she earned her Juris Doctor in 1987 from the Washington University School of Law.

Grissom, a senior psychology and criminal justice major from Frankford, Ind., will serve as SGA president for the 2020-21 academic year. She has been named to the president’s list, the dean’s list or the honor roll on four occasions during her time at C-SC. She is a member of the women’s basketball team and the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.

CANTON, Mo. — Laura Gerdes Ehrhart and Gina Driscoll ’83 recently were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Trustees at ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø, and Steve Viorel ’02, president of the Alumni Board, will represent alumni for a two-year term on the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for assisting the College in legal and fiduciary decisions; approving the mission and strategic goals of the organization; and establishing policies.

The Board of Trustees currently consists of 33 members and five people who are Trustees Emeriti. Ronald W. Leftwich ’64 of Houston, Texas, is the chairman.

Ehrhart has been the president and CEO of Michelmann Steel Inc., in Quincy, Ill., since 2006. She is the great-great-granddaughter of J.H. Michelmann, who founded the business in 1865. After working in Chicago as a senior cost and scheduling engineer for Peterson & Co., a litigation support consulting firm, and as a project coordinator for Metra, a commuter railroad, Ehrhart returned to Quincy in 1991 to become executive vice president of the family business.

She was named a Woman of Achievement by the Quincy YWCA in 1998 and was part of Leadership Illinois’ Class of 2012. She is a member of the Illinois Wesleyan Council for Women, the Illinois Wesleyan Parent Board, the Michelmann Foundation, the Blessing Foundation, the Good Samaritan Home Foundation and the Quincy Area Project.

Ehrhart graduated from Quincy High School in 1980. She received a bachelor’s degree in physics from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill., in 1984, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill., in 1986. She is a registered engineering intern in Illinois and also is a member of Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society.

Ehrhart lives in Quincy with her husband, Rick. They have three children.

Driscoll has been an agency field specialist for State Farm in East Peoria, Ill., since June 2001. She grew up in Quincy and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Culver-Stockton, then moved to Arizona and started her career with State Farm in auto claims in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1986. She later moved to Bloomington and worked in the convention and travel department until she took her current position.

Driscoll is a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and worked with C-SC’s Alumni Office to raise funds to build the Alpha Xi Delta Plaza. She served on the Alumni Board for more than two years and later also served as president from 2008 to 2013. She recently joined the Peoria Rotary Club, is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in East Peoria and volunteers for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Salvation Army.

Driscoll and her husband, Steve, have been married for almost 24 years. They have two dogs, Maggie and Lucy.

Viorel is a financial planner with Raymond James Financial Services in Hannibal. He has worked in the financial services industry since 2002. Before joining Raymond James in November 2017, he was a financial advisor and branch manager with Wells Fargo Advisors FiNet for 14 months and a director of investment services at HNB Bank for 12 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in communications from ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø in 2002.

Viorel is the president of the Mark Twain Home Foundation. He is a member of the Hannibal Early Bird Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Church, Marion County Services for the Developmentally Disabled and the Hannibal Y Men’s Club. He combined with his business partner, Kenneth Greger ’78, to provide funding in 2018 to refurbish the locker room for the C-SC football team.

Viorel lives in Hannibal.

CANTON, Mo. — Former Quincy mayor Chuck Scholz will be speaking during ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø’s annual Constitution Day event at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Merillat Chapel and Recital Hall in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.

Scholz began his career in public service as an assistant attorney general, directing the Western Illinois Regional Office. He also served as the downstate political director for former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon. Scholz then won the mayoral election in Quincy in 1993 and served as mayor for 12 years. He now practices law at Scholz and Scholz LLP in Quincy with his son, Jacob.

Scholz has worked on many civic, educational, religious, and charitable causes and activities benefiting Quincy. Scholz also is an advocate for organ donation after receiving a life-saving liver transplant. He was honored earlier this year as the Boy Scouts of America’s Mississippi Valley Council’s 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award recipient, and he serves as chairman of the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Scholz holds an honorary degree from ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø and is a member of the Board of Trustees.

A federal law was passed in 2004 requiring that all schools that receive any kind of federal aid must hold an observance on or around September 17 each year to celebrate Constitution Day, a holiday created in 1952 to honor the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

CANTON, Mo. – Maureen Kahn, president and chief executive officer of Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital, recently was elected to the Board of Trustees at ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for assisting the College in legal and fiduciary decisions; approving the mission, strategic goals, and objectives of the organization; and establishing policies.

The Board of Trustees consists of 35 members and five people who are Trustees Emeriti. Ronald W. Leftwich ’64 of Houston, Texas, is the chairman.

Kahn became Blessing Hospital’s senior vice president/chief nursing officer in 2001. She became president/chief executive officer of Blessing Hospital in 2005, and she became the president/chief executive officer of the Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital in 2014.

Kahn brought 24 years of health care experience to Blessing. She began her career as a registered nurse in Philadelphia, earning a diploma from Frankford Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, Pa., a master’s degree in health care administration from Hamilton University in Clinton, N.Y., and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. Kahn went on to hold various leadership positions in Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

She was the keynote speaker at Culver-Stockton’s commencement in 2017 and received an honorary doctorate of health care administration degree from C-SC.

Kahn and her husband, Barney, live in Quincy. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
