CANTON, Mo. – “My Eyes Are Here,” a photograph by Maxine Phillips of Pittsfield, Ill., was judged best in show as part of the annual Honors Art Exhibit at ÂŇÂ×ÉçÇř last month.

The exhibit highlights the top artwork created in an art department course at Culver-Stockton during the past academic year. Students may submit any number of entries, and the art department faculty selects the top 75. Juror Laura Bigger, a printmaking instructor at Truman State University, was the juror who chose this year’s top pieces.

The President’s Choice was given to “Figure #2” by Jordan Graves of Springfield, Ill. President Kelly M. Thompson selects a piece that will hang in her office for the next year.

Nevin McNally of Quincy, Ill., won the Charles Meyer Award. Meyer, who died in 2012, started taking art classes at C-SC when he was in his late 80s, and his family annually provides a $100 award during the exhibit. The winner is selected by the C-SC art department faculty.

Graves and McNally also shared the Ahrens Award given to the most promising junior student.

Merit Awards were given to:

  • Walker for “Sunlit Landscape”
  • Graves for “Figure Study 1”
  • McNally for “Mother Jupiter”
  • McNally for “Dinky Boy”
  • Taylor Pitford of Keokuk, Iowa, for “Good Morning Booty”

Honorable mention awards were given to:

  • Mary Phillips of Durham, Mo., for “Evergreen Icicles”
  • Alanna Ketchum of O’Fallon, Mo., for “Old Rusty Gas Pump”
  • Linda Gower of Canton, Mo., for “Henderson Hall”
  • Lance Logan of Kirksville, Mo., for “Nouveau Vase”
  • Lorraine Way of Quincy, Ill., for “Little Red”
