CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Multiple students were recognized by the Office of Multicultural Development during a virtual presentation recently organized by the Office of Student Life at 乱伦社区.

Receiving Black Student Union stoles were:

  • Leon O’Hara, a senior criminal justice major from St. Louis.
  • Michael Simon, a senior criminal justice major from St. Louis.
  • Dahveed McKinney, a senior individualized major from Plano, Ill.
  • Tremaine Cole, a senior sport management major from Southfield, Mich.
  • Rakim Weddington, a senior sports communication major from Hemet, Calif.
  • John Francois, a senior accountancy major from Cape Coral, Fla.
  • Kayla May, a senior health science major from St. Louis.

The Scholars Of Distinction Award was given to:

  • J鈥檕rdan Scurlock, a junior criminal science major from St. Louis.
  • Malik Webb, a junior public relations major from Chicago.
  • Damonni Morris, a sophomore health science major from Hollywood, Fla.
  • Ahmed Barrow, a sophomore English education major from St. Louis.
  • Leon O鈥橦ara, a senior criminal justice major from St. Louis.
  • Jalen Hutton, a junior sport management major from University Park, Ill.
  • K.T. Seth, a senior biological chemistry major from West Linn, Ore.

The Emerging Multicultural Leadership Award for staff and faculty members was given to:

  • Rebecca Katz, student life specialist
  • Dorian Hobbs, assistant men鈥檚 basketball coach
  • Christian Thompson, coordinator of fraternity and student life
  • Andrea Denise Bolden, coordinator of multicultural development and residence life
  • Missy Dubuque, director of alumni programs

Senior awards for participating in multicultural events on campus were:

  • Leon O’Hara, a criminal justice major from St. Louis.
  • Michael Simon, a criminal justice major from St. Louis.
  • Dahveed McKinney, an individualized major from Plano, Ill.
  • Tremaine Cole, a sport management major from Southfield, Mich.

  • John Francois, a accountancy major from Cape Coral, Fla.
  • Kayla May, a health science major from St. Louis.
  • Evan Carnes, a health science major from St. Louis.

The Power To The Future Award (for to a student group or organization) was given to the Black Student Union and Diver-siTeam.

CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Willicia Denise Hobbs will be the keynote speaker during 乱伦社区鈥檚 Martin Luther King Day of Service event at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Merillat Chapel and Recital Hall in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.

Hobbs retired in 2017 after 30 years in education, with 24 of them in Missouri school systems. She was an assistant superintendent, a teacher and a principal in various districts. She has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in elementary education, two master鈥檚 degrees and a doctorate in education. She also is certified as a principal mentor by the National Association of Middle School Principals. The topic of her lecture is 鈥淯sing Your Education to Gain Success.鈥

Hobbs also will be speaking during an MLK women鈥檚 luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17 in the Schwan Family Dining Room.

CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Fourteen students were recognized by 乱伦社区鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Development as a Scholar of Distinction recipient for the fall 2019 semester during a reception on Friday, Dec. 13.

Andrea Bolden, coordinator of multicultural development and residence life, said the students were selected for their student leadership, commitment to personal achievement and academic excellence.

Jordan Billingsley, a sophomore elementary education major from St. Louis

CANTON, Mo. 鈥 Andrea Bolden recently was hired as the coordinator of multicultural development and residence life at 乱伦社区.

Bolden is a native of Bowling Green, Ky. She earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in family consumer sciences from Western Kentucky University in 2013, and she earned her master鈥檚 degree in student affairs in higher education from Western Kentucky in 2017.

She most recently was a therapeutic foster care case manager for Necco in Bowling Green. She also previously worked in admissions, housing and residence life and students affairs while at Western Kentucky, and she also was a preschool Head Start teacher.

The coordinator of multicultural development and residence life works with minority student populations on campus in advising through their college career while also responsible for the celebration and education of diverse cultures at Culver-Stockton.
