The title of Alllison鈥檚 dissertation was 鈥淎 Conductor鈥檚 Analysis of聽Missa votiva聽(ZWV 18)聽by Jan Luk谩拧 Ignatius Dismas Zelenka.鈥� Zelenka, who died in 1745, was a Czech composer and one of the most respected musicians of the Baroque period. Because of the inaccessibility of his works after his death and damage to many of his manuscripts during World War II, his creative output is little known and thus rarely performed today.

Allison joined the faculty at 乱伦社区 in August 2016. He is the conductor of C-SC鈥檚 collegiate choir, concert choir and chamber choir. Allison also is a tenor in the Quincy Symphony Chorus and plays the violin in the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.

He previously was a K-12 vocal and instrumental music teacher for the Labette County School District, based in Altamont, Kan. Allison鈥檚 choirs won numerous awards at the regional and state level, and he had three students perform in choirs at Carnegie Hall. He won awards from the Kansas Music Teachers Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

He also has teaching experience at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan., and the Olathe School District in Olathe, Kan.

Allison earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in music education in 2005 from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., and his master鈥檚 degree in choral conducting in 2007 from Pittsburg State University.

The concert will begin with the 60-voice Collegiate Choir singing a joyful, syncopated processional based on the ancient chant 鈥淰eni, Veni Emmanuel鈥� by Michael John Trotta, continue the rhythmic energy with 鈥淣o茅l Ayisyen,鈥� a carol from Haiti, and then showcase seasonal works of John Rutter, Eric Whitacre and Charles Ives.

The Chamber Choir will offer a wide contrast of styles, ranging from the 鈥淗odie Christus natus est鈥� of Heinrich Sch眉tz to the lovely Hugo Distler arrangement of 鈥淟o! How a Rose E鈥檈r Blooming鈥� and the more angular and syncopated 鈥淎ve Maria鈥� by Javier Busto.

The Concert Choir enters with its own processional to an arrangement of 鈥淥 Come, O Come, Emmanuel鈥� arranged with a completely different sense of time and grandeur. Capturing the rejoicing of the season with the Parker/Shaw arrangement of 鈥淐hrist was born on Christmas Day鈥� and 鈥淗allelujah, Christ is Born鈥� by Rosephanye Powell, the Concert Choir charges the tempo with Andr茅 J. Thomas鈥檚 鈥淩ockin鈥� Jerusalem鈥� before returning to the peace of the season in the Hughes/Loose 鈥淟ullaby for a King鈥� and ending with their traditional 鈥淧eace, Peace鈥� with candlelight 鈥淪ilent Night.鈥�

A brass quintet and saxophone quartet will provide instrumental interludes under the direction of Aren Van Houzen and Trent Hollinger respectively. A dessert reception in Merillat Chapel and Recital Hall will follow the concert, with light seasonal music provided by various instrumental ensembles.

CANTON, Mo. 鈥撀燜aculty members from 乱伦社区鈥檚 Department of Music will be featured in two Casual Classics concerts in April at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main in Hannibal.

The Faculty Chamber Concert, a vocal and instrumental showcase, will be at 2 p.m. April 13.聽Performers will be Dylan Marney, piano; Lisa Blake, mezzo-soprano; Aren Van Houzen, trumpet; Trent Hollinger, saxophone; Scotty Allison, tenor;聽and Joe Skertich, composition.

The second concert will be on April 27 with Marney performing solo works by聽Bach, Brahms and Kapustin on the piano.

No admission is charged for either performance.聽 Advance ticket purchases or reservations are unnecessary.

The Casual Classics series is a partnership with the Hannibal Arts Council, Hannibal Concert Association, 乱伦社区 Division of Fine, Applied, and Literary Arts, Area Culver-Stockton Trustees and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
